I haven’t heard of any similar stories of late, but a couple of years ago a female student made the blogosphere and news headlines, for claiming that she was going to pay of her student loans by auctioning off her purity – her virginity. Can anyone else recall? I mean, I don’t want to sound old-fashioned – but isn’t this taking it a bit far? Or is this perfectly acceptable these days? The location for this event was none other than the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Nevada. In her very own words “I think empowerment of women is picking yourself up and doing something on your own to better yourself”.
There was another twist to this tale though, allegedly her stepfather had applied for loans under her name and then made off with the money, leaving the debts of course to his unknowing stepdaughter. Dreadful, just dreadful. She went on, nevertheless, to earn her bachelors in degree in Women Studies and planned to continue her studies with a Master in Family and Marriage counseling. She needed the dollar though to follow her dreams – she needed to auction her virginity. Morally, I’m just not sure – but you can’t knock her down either.
In such a capitalist world where people do anything to earn their bread – she could definitely be financially comfortable in the future and besides…how many people have a fairytale first anyway? At least she is profiting! Natalie Dylan (under pseudonym) did something that most would find totally immoral, but I think if she was strong enough to go ahead with it, then she probably shook it off rather quickly too – especially with over $250, 000 in the hand.
